- Our Team
Hi, my name is Nicolay. I grew up on the sunny side of the Oslofjord - in Moss, and I have just turned 30. I joined the Marketer family this week as the new Executive Vice President of Sales. The first couple of days indicate that I am in for a ride of a lifetime.
I have a quite diverse background, but what ties it all together is sales. I love sales. The thrill of it, the challenges, the highs and lows, and the sincere satisfaction of providing a client with a solution or a service that actually solves a business specific challenge for them.
I started my career in another norwegian tech company. I was with Meltwater for almost 6 years, working directly with sales and quickly became a sales manager with my own team. The last couple of years in the company I was the managing director for the offices we had in Norway and Denmark.
I have also worked as a management consultant in Implement Consulting Group, helping organizations to accelerate their sales efforts. Most recently I was in Kongsberg Digital where I worked towards the shipping industry.
What triggered me with Marketer?
Marketer is one of a select group of interesting companies in the newly formed proptech industry in Norway. The company is already a market leader domestically, but the potential on a global scale is enormous. The people here portray what I look for in a company - living and breathing to make the organization successful and the best place to work. This is shining through from every individual here and throughout from every inch of the office.
What is my role in Marketer?
My role as VP of Sales is to scale the team to a world class sales organization. I am responsible, together with the team, to continuously perfect a healthy sales culture that puts the customer in the midst of our attention, to recruit new sales personnel, and to develop the talent that’s already here. That can be everything from holding workshops, taking part in client meetings, training new employees, and developing and adjusting our sales strategy. We also have the very clear goal of scaling out to new markets abroad. Setting up new offices, finding the right people and training them on the sales methodology will be part of my job.
But most importantly - my task is to ensure that we reach our ambitious growth goals.
How’s the first week been?
The first week has been really interesting. I have spent a lot of time trying to get to know the team, drinking loads of coffee, and been introduced to all internal systems. But I have also joined meetings with potential customers, as well as trying to understand the markets in which we operate.
It has been a lot of fun and laughs and smiles. And it has been long days. My feeling going forward is that I will definitely not get bored at work!
What do I do outside of work?
I have a lot of activities that I try to maintain. I play a bit of golf. It’s weird how long I have played without getting any better. I play a bit of squash. I try to run as much as possible. I appreciate the prospect of being out in the wild, realising that I don’t get around to do it as often as I imagine I would like. I am part of a tartar club, on the quest of finding the best one in Oslo. And most importantly, I have a wonderful girlfriend at home that I spend a lot of time with.
Fun fact
I must be one of the top whistlers in Norway. Seriously.
